Hatchet 3 review (Decker Shado)

Hatchet 3 was the horror film of the Hatchet trilogy. It follows the continuing adventures of Victor Crowley and his murderous rampage through Honey Island Swamp in Louisiana. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.

Its use of special effects is the primary strength of this movie. Hatchet 3 uses a lot less CG effects than other horror films. This allows some truly frightening moments to be captured in the movie.

The cast is solid and the lead actor Kane Hodder proving to be an intimidating villain. The dialogue is so funny and tongue-in cheek that it could feel like a classic '80s horror film. Additionally, there are certain moments of genuine comedy throughout, which provide a comical contrast against all of the heart-wrenching action.

The budget for the film was limited to one million dollars. This means that a lot of locations in the movie are re-used from earlier films. One boat house is used twice, and the majority of the scenes feel like they're recycled from other films. It can feel almost familiar to those who've watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be very similar to other entries in the series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots (blog post) of thrilling thrills and hilarious performances from its actors.
